CAR OWNERS have reported that their cars were splashed with acrylic paint as they were driving past the Songkran zone at Phuket’s Nai Yang Beach during the festivities.

A well-known Facebook page “queentogetherisone” posted pictures of thick globs of paint on the cars with an explanation: “We just polishing the cars and on April 13 we drove to join Songkran Festival at Nai Yang Beach. There were some people throwing colour [paint] at our car. When I tried to wipe it off with my hand, it stuck tight.

“I managed to find a car care product that removes this acrylic colour [paint] from the car without destroying the paint finish. I would like to share this to show that someone exaggerated the fun without thinking about the consequences.”

Saku Police Superintendent Pol Col Kittipong Klaikaewsaid said that three similar incidents were reported at the same location.

In the first case, Thanachot Iewsiri, 40, reported on April 15 that he picked up passengers from Phuket bus terminal in his Toyota Altis taxi and passed Nai Yang Beach heading to a hotel. His car was splashed with paint and the windshield wipers could not remove it. He discovered it was acrylic paint that dried very quickly in the hot sun.

The second case involved 35-year-old Sarayut Naweewong, who told police on the same morning that his white Toyota Yaris was splashed with paint at a hotel on the beach road of Nai Yang.

The following day, Montri Junpisit, 33, reported to the police that he was heading for the Songkran Festival in Nai Yang. He said when he arrived near Nai Yang Market a group of men threw paint on his Toyota and other cars. He said that it was acrylic paint and could not be washed off.

Pol Col Kittipong said police would check all CCTV cameras in the area and arrest those responsible.
