Chulalongkorn launches student app
Hoping to become the country's leading university in digital lifestyle, Bangkok's Chulalongkorn University (CU) has introduced a smartphone application to enable students, teachers and personnel to access study timetables and to locate classrooms, to search for e-books from all CU libraries for class preparation and to engage in "PLearn Space", an online group-working forum.
The CU Nex application would also allow users to locate university buses and timetables, to make reservations to participate in university activities or to book for a CU venue to organise an event, said CU president Bundhit Eua-apporn. The application also boosted security in the campus via an SOS system, which enabled the users to call for emergency assistance, he added.
Bundhit said the app aimed to continuously upgrade to accommodate more data and to be more convenient. It would in future develop a data hub of students' behaviour and use Business Intelligence programming in analysing such information to aid the university's decisions to create or improve courses and activities.
He said the blockchain encoded digital ledger would also be applied in the CU network to improve key document management.
Kasikornbank Public Company Limited is the university's partner in developing this application.
Kasikornbank managing director Khattiya Intharawichai said her company saw the importance of service and innovation creation and aimed towards providing "beyond banking" services to customers. Therefore the company applied its expertise in digital solution technology and data-driven insights.
