Chiang Mai world's most polluted city today

Chiang Mai was the world's most polluted city on Sunday, according to an IQAir report.

The 10 cities with highest air pollution on Sunday were: Chiang Mai, Dhaka, Yangon, Kabul, Delhi, Zagreb, Kolkata, Wuhan, Kathmandu and Belgrade.

Earlier, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency said on Saturday that 1,735 fire hotspots were found in Thailand of which 570 hotspots were located in Mae Hong Son province, 278 in Chiang Mai and 193 in Lampang province.

The Air Quality and Noise Management Bureau reportedly said on Sunday that PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter) readings were in the range of 9-264 micrograms per cubic metre (μg/m3).

Thailand has set the PM2.5 safety limit at 50μg/m3.

"The areas that exceeded the standard on Sunday were: Chiang Mai, Lampang, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Lamphun, Phrae, Phayao, Tak, Ubon Ratchathani, Kamphaeng Phet and Sukhothai provinces," the report said.
