Govt panels greenlight Bt63 billion for 2022 regional and provincial development projects

The government’s Regional Development Committee and Provincial Development Committee recently approved a budget of Bt63.59 billion for development projects in all six regions in fiscal year 2022, a source revealed.

“The committees, both chaired by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, agreed at their joint meeting that 505 projects would receive budgets, of the total 1,670 projects worth Bt88.61 billion proposed by government agencies and state enterprises,” said the source.

Budgets and projects granted and divided by regions are as follows:

Northern region: Bt13.6 billion budget for 62 projects, mainly focusing on tourism and service industry promotion.

Northeastern region: Bt22 billion for 154 projects, mainly involving water resource management and local economic promotion.

Central region: Bt9.6 billion for 90 projects, mainly focusing on tourism promotion and Bangkok smart city initiative.

Eastern region: Bt4.86 billion for 61 projects, such as EEC development, cross-border trading and tourism promotion.

Southern region: Bt10.2 billion for 87 projects, such as tourism promotion and rubber processing industry development.

Deep South: Bt2.8 billion for 51 projects, including the promotion of Sungai Kokok and Betong as cross-border trading centres.
