The President's Office has postponed the construction of the Botahtaung Jetty recreation project.

The project aims to extend the jetty some 40 metres onto the river for the construction of a two-storey shopping mall, a three-storey business centre and four-storey resort.
The draft contract between Pale Land Company and the Myanmar Port Authority was submitted to the government’s Economic Committee, but the President’s Office issued an order to postpone the project.

Govt seeks end to illegal timber trade with China
Myanmar officials have demanded that the Chinese government stop importing thousands of tonnes of illegal timber into China.
The move came after a China-Myanmar trade cooperation meeting.
“There are about 20,000 logs in the southern part of Kanpaikte. These logs will be sent to China. This leads to deforestation in Kachin State,” Consulate-General Aung Kyaw Oo said during a meeting with representatives from Yunnan’s provincial government.
“According to the rules and regulations of the timber enterprise, after chopping logs, we need to grow new trees. Deforestation may cause climate change. These consequences may be seriously harmful to Myanmar,” he added.
