Three Indochina nations move closer with joint projects
Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam will implement several joint projects aimed at enhancing solidarity between the three Indochina nations, including sharing historical films, exchange visits and excellence awards.
The plan was included in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by leaders of the three countries at the conclusion of the Second Front Conference: Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam, held in Vientiane yesterday and attended by Laotian vice-president Bounnhang Vorachith.
The first project is to prepare and demonstrate documentary films in the respective countries, showcasing development in each country, and the friendship ties between the three nations.
For Cambodia and Vietnam, the two countries will prepare and demonstrate two documentary films on the occasion of 35th anniversary of the victory over the genocidal regime of Pol Pot, and the 40th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam next year.
The same activities will be implemented between Laos and Vietnam, including the screening of films on development and relations between the two nations, which will be held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese National Day and the 40th anniversary of the founding of Lao PDR in 2015.
Also to boost solidarity, exchanges of friendship and visits between officials, fronts, and parties from the three nations will take place in 2014-2015 to mark the important dates of the respective nations.
In addition, the three nations will propose their governments to award outstanding individuals who contribute to strengthening their mutual friendship. Awards will be conferred on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Lao PDR, and United Vietnam amongst other occasions.
The respective national fronts will encourage administration bodies to organise international conferences on the theme of promoting borders of peace and friendship between Laos and Vietnam, and between Cambodia and Vietnam next year.
In his remarks at the meeting in Vientiane, president of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland (FDCM) National Council, Samdech Heng Samrin reminded the audience of the long-standing tradition of solidarity, friendship, and cooperative relations between the three nations and the difficulties they endured together during the cold war period.
President of the Lao Front for National Construction (FDCM) Phanduangchit Vongsa said the fronts of the three countries symbolised their solidarity and mutual respect and support for each other.
In this regard, Vietnam National United Front (VNUF) President Nguyen Thien Nhan appreciated that the MOU signed by front leaders in Phnom Pen will be implemented by FDCM, LFNC, and VNUF at all levels, especially in the border provinces.
In his speech at the meeting's opening ceremony, Vice President Bounnhang highlighted the mutual assistance of the “friendly neighbouring countries”, which share borders, rivers, have lived alongside each other peacefully, and assisted each other on the battle field against mutual enemies.
