Yangon - Taw Phaya, 92, a grandson of the last Myanmar king Thibaw, has sent a letter requesting the Thai king’s help in the review of the verdict on two Koh Tao murder defendants.

In his letter, he did not seek the royal pardon for the two Myanmar nationals but requested His Majesty’s help to let the concerned authorities review the case.

“Many people know that witnesses have no strong evidence, so the case should be retried to get the real true facts and the real culprits… Myanmar people and I myself will be thankful for your compassion and kindness,” he said in the letter dated December 27.

Hteik Tin Aung, grandson of Taw Phaya, today submitted the letter through the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon.

“We are not interfering Thailand’s justice system. We do respect the sovereignty and justice of our neighbouring country. And we do respect His Majesty and the royal family. We believe in His Majesty’s kindness and fairness. So we are sending this letter through the embassy. We hope His Majesty will receive the letter and show his kindness,” said Hteik Tin Aung.
