For more than three decades, Montian Amonlirdviman’s family has been producing quality teak and panel furniture for several brands in Europe and Asia. Ten years ago, they expanded to the Japanese market, offering a selection of desks for the home, which proved particularly popular with parents of school age kids.
Last year, Montian decided to turn his focus on the domestic market, founding the Knotty Berry brand and launching his furniture at Thailand International Furniture Fair. Inspired by the Japanese tradition where grandparents buy the first desk for children, his desks are made from quality wood and designed to be durable from primary school to university.
His furniture is also semi-knockdown, a bonus for any family on the move. The desks have drawer space and come with a chair and inverter light. He uses quality particleboard as the main material, but also offers choices of solid wood like oak and rubberwood.
“It’s a tradition that the grandparents buy a new desk for children when they go to a primary school, so a home desk set is very popular in Japan,” Montian explains.
Knotty Berry also offers bookshelves, free standing wooden filing cabinets, wooden chairs and office chairs from Taiwan, along with some accessories like plastic mats and student bags from Japan. The furniture is available in natural wood as well as in pink and blue.
His desks come in a standard size, at 75 centimetres high with adjustable chairs and drawers. There are four series: Nobel, Maco Polo, Galileo and Angelo.
The brand will also be launching a bedroom set featuring beds and wardrobes before the end of the year and plans to open a flagship store in the near future.
