Photos of solitude

Thai photographer Prasit Deesilprakij’s award-winning work will be featured in “A New Perspective on Photography: The Incredible Journey to the New Horizon”, an exhibition at Le Meridien Bangkok until November 20.
Beating more than 800 entrants, Prasit won the contest hosted by the Thai edition of Lonely Planet magazine and Canon. A 51-year-old businessman, Prasit snapped “Ice Blue Cave” during his travels to Jokulsarlon, a glacial river lagoon in Iceland.
The first runner-up is 38-year-old freelance photographer Jirachon Chamsang whose “Sandstorm at Bromo” was taken at Indonesia’s Mount Bromo volcano.
The popular vote winner was 28-year-old pilot Teerawat Sumrantin. He captured “The Colours of Salzburg” while travelling in Austria.

Big to-do for Tadu
After three-year hiatus, the Tadu art gallery has reopened in a new space on Sukhumvit Soi 87.
Called Tadu-Thaiyarnyon Contemporary Art, the debut exhibition is “Spiritual Media Reaction”, with mixed-media and video works by Amrit Chusuwan and Witaya Junma.
Mutual interests of the artists from different generations are expressed.
Amrit looks at things that impact your state of mind, drawing on Buddhism, emotions and that human trait of stubborn adherence.
Witaya challenges and lures by creating a virtual world through form, light, sound and time, encouraging you to participate by questioning the very existence of the world, the meaning of life and whether it’s possible to make dreams come true.
Running until October 31, the show will include artists’ talks, movie screenings, discussions and workshops.
The gallery is in the Thaiyarnyon Building, second floor, at 2225 Sukhumvit Soi 87. For more details, call (02) 311 4953, check the Tadu Art page on Facebook or e-mail [email protected].
