Katie and Boobi are BFF

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics has a surprise this month along with its Lightness, Brightness and Optimism makeup styles for spring-summer 2013. It’s teamed up with Katie Holmes. The company is making the rounds with an interview with the American actress and its founder. A video clip is also online through The Nation’s iSnap application.

Katie, why did you choose Bobbi Brown for your first cosmetics campaign?
Katie Holmes: Bobbi is exceptional and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is a company we, as women, all turn
to because it’s makeup that’s
very accessible and makes
you feel pretty. Sometimes
it’s just a lipstick or a blush
that makes you feel like
you can do what you need
to do. Makeup is power-
ful and I am thrilled
to be a part of this
brand.

What do you admire most
about each other?
Bobbi Brown: Katie
and I met through a mutual friend and
instantly clicked. We’re both girls from the Midwest, entrepreneurs and mothers who live multidimensional lives. It was nice to find out we had so much in common.
Katie epitomises the modern “Bobbi woman”. I think of her as the modern-day Ali McGraw, who I’ve always admired. Katie is a natural beauty – she can be stunning and she can be simply beautiful.

How do you see your relationship evolving over the next year?
Bobbi Brown: I look forward to working together on creating the beauty looks for her spring 2013 fashion show for her and stylist Jeanne Yang’s Holmes & Yang line. I’ve been a fan of the brand for its simple, clean lines that enhance a woman’s shape. Next we will be shooting the brand’s spring ad campaign with Katie in New York City. For me it’s not about Katie as celebrity, but Katie is the one.

What was your impression of Bobbi when you first met?
Katie Holmes: Bobbi the person is very much what her makeup line stands for – no fuss, down to earth and real. Makeup makes me feel glamorous.
 How do you feel having joined Bobbi Brown as its first beauty spokesperson?
Katie Holmes: I’ve always been a fan of Bobbi Brown makeup, because it’s so easy to apply. Her colour palettes aren’t extreme, so when I first started wearing makeup it felt comfortable and I didn’t feel like I had too much on, which can happen. And then I met her, and she is just a lovely person – so generous. I think that it’s so exciting what she’s built with this company. She’s an incredible woman. So I’m thrilled on so many levels.
I really like Bobbi’s philosophy that makeup makes you feel beautiful. You’re already beautiful, but it makes you feel stronger and better. You don’t want to walk around depending on your beauty, but it’s nice to have products that help when you haven’t slept enough. Or if you’re going in to a big meeting and you’re a little nervous, it might be that tube of lipstick that gives you the extra dose of confidence you need.
Women in this day and age handle so much, and I think those little things really matter. Even her packaging makes you feel good.

How does makeup make you feel?
Katie Holmes: My mom always told my sisters and me to never be afraid of makeup because it enhances what is there and can help hide your flaws, which we all have.

What’s your favourite Bobbi Brown product?
Katie Holmes: I do love her shimmer brick. Thank God that exists! One of the things I love about that is that it’s like a one-step thing. Even if you don’t have a brush, you can use your finger.
I don’t have to pull anything else out. I put it everywhere. Even under my eyes. Who cares? It’s shimmer! I like that. It’s so easy if you’re late. And it’s subtle but it looks nice.
And I like her lip-glosses a lot because they’re not too sticky, and they feel like they’re really moisturising. And they don’t come off.

What is makeup to you?
Bobbi Brown: Makeup is everything. It’s a way to make you feel good and glamorous, but certainly it’s a way to make you feel you don’t look tired. It makes you feel fresher and rested – a powerful feeling that you can achieve anything. For me, makeup makes you feel confident.
