No one afraid to see 'Pee Mak'

In another phenomenal launch for the GTH film studio, "Pee Mak Phra Khanong" has - as anticipated - set a new record as GTH's all-time top-grossing release on opening day, taking in Bt21.2 million

Only Sahamongkol’s “Ong Bak” earned more on its first day – Bt30 million.
And the “Pee Mak” clout sounds even better when you consider that Hollywood blockbuster “GI Joe: Retaliation” premiered at the same time, and that the “Pee Mak” gross doesn’t include the box office from theatres upcountry.
The Thai movie has kept Bangkok cinemas packed, and some multiplexes have added extra screenings to meet demand.
GTH president Visute Poolvoralaks doesn’t want to predict the total take just yet. “I can estimate that figure as soon as I see the income from the first four days,” he says. But with more multiplexes operating across the country, “Pee Mak” is quite likely to earn better than Bt150 million – and some say it can reach Bt200 million.
One stumbling block on the road to riches is the opening next week of rival studio M-Thirtynine’s ambitious remake of “Khoo Kam”, the latest cinematic version of the tragic wartime romance between a Thai woman and a Japanese soldier. That could cut into “Pee Mak” profits.
Regardless, “Pee Mak” will certainly crack the Bt100-million mark by Wednesday.

Twitter’s ability to ignore class distinctions was evident this week when a football wife took on royalty in England.
According to the Telegraph, the Duchess of Cornwall – Prince Charles’ wife Camilla – was told that Wayne Rooney’s wife Coleen had worn a 5-million-pound gown bedecked with diamonds at their wedding in 2007. Camilla, daughter-in-law of Britain’s richest woman, reportedly said Coleen should be more careful with her money.
A fuming Coleen fired up her Twitter machine. “I apparently paid around 5 million for my wedding dress!! Joke!! Diamonds on it – Not one!” Then another tweet. “Camilla should know better and teach children to not always believe the rubbish reported in papers!!”
You can believe this bit, though.
