Swarovski sets off on a journey to exotic South America with its Tropical Paradise collection of cut-crystal jewellery. Inspired by the continent’s diversity and exuberance, the accessories make stops for both Rio de Janeiro’s carnival and the Amazon rainforest.
Swarovski techniques such as pointiage, facting and pavé settings are evident throughout the collection, which combines leather, chains in different metals, resin, plaited scoubidou and cotton cords. Vibrant colours convey the festival spirit, green evokes the lush vegetation of the jungle, fuchsia conjures up the sensuality of the orchid and turquoise symbolises the clear water of the sea off Acapulco.
The crystals rest in settings in the shape of insects, birds of paradise and palm trees. Beetles sit beside dragonflies and pink flamingos. Becoming more eclectic in design, there are skull and chilli-pepper charms.
The highlights include an oversized Tangara bib necklace decorated with geometric crystals, inspired by the architecture of a lost city, and the Texture bib necklace, a perfect combination of crystal and textiles. On printed leather, a stylised leaf is etched in green, purple, fuchsia and lagoon blue, suggesting the density of jungle foliage. It’s adorned with faceted crystal embroidery and braided silver chains.
The Trema cuff displays a stunning fusion of materials and techniques. Golden leather perfectly resembles embossed reptile skin. It’s reflected in an enormous faceted crystal set on a surface worked with pointiage. Extravagant and stylish, this large bracelet is perfect for jet-set soirées in Ipanema.
