Fans of pop duo Singular, most of them female, poured into BCC Hall at Central Lat Phrao last Sunday to cheer on the lads in what was apparently their final concert as a twosome.
Vocalist and songwriter Tossaporn “Sin” Achawanuntagul and guitarist Chotiwut “Nut” Boonyasit, who have been making music together for three years, recently announced their decision to pursue solo careers and emotions ran high at the show as enjoyment was tempered by sadness.
The duo kicked off the concert with “Bao Bao” (“Tender”), their second single and the number that shot them to fame. They continued with “Second Chance”, “Traffic” and “24.7” before welcoming special guest Thanakorn “DJ Beau” Chinaku to the stage.
DJ Beau invited fans to take part in a game, announcing that the winners would be asked to come up to the stage to have their photos taken with Sin and Nut on stage.
“Everybody stand up and listen to the rules,” he told fans. “Those who are wearing jeans should remain standing when I say ‘wear jeans’. If they are not, they should sit down.
That sounded simple enough and the audience had great fun responding to Beau’s shouts.
Singular returned to the stage, performing “Noid”, “Until We Meet Again” and “Niran” before announcing yet another game, this one involving a hunt for messages under the seats.
Long before the show, the duo had hidden small sheets of paper under 16 seats and once they’d identified the lucky fans, they divided them into four teams and asked each to mime the word on the paper.
Laughter rang out as the teams struggled to communicate such messages as “zoo” and “garden”.
The duo resumed their set with the upbeat “Kam Tob” and followed up with sad ballad “Long”. Sin summed up the lyrics, saying that everybody has his or her own dreams and that we should always try to follow those dreams.
“We are splitting up so that we can do exactly that but perhaps we will one day reunite to put on another concert for you guys,” he said.
Nut echoed those sentiments, saying “I grew up with music and no matter what happens, I’ll continue to play music. These days, I am doing more acting but music is still very much part of my life”.
The pair closed out the show with “Some Another Day” with the audience taking over the song even as the stage went dark. Sin and Nut returned, this time from the back of the hall, walking through the audience as they sang a reprise of “Bao Bao”.
