Oak’s home somehow less spacious after Opal moves in
CONGRATULATIONS TO newlyweds Panisara “Opal” Phimpru of TV fame and Smith “Oak” Arayasakul, whose wedding last weekend went exactly as planned, with only family and close friends present for the big day.
Reporters finally got to stick their noses in after the event and immediately asked about the vows they exchanged. There were none, Oak replied, because they’ve known from the start that they’d be happy together forever, so who needs formal vows?
It wasn’t a grand affair, but it was definitely conducted with style, and now the two are busy again preparing for the wedding reception at the Plaza Athenee Hotel on April 6. “The preparations are half done,” Oak said at a press conference at PPTV. Opal wasn’t there because she was busy moving stuff into her new home – his place, he explained.
“She started with the wardrobe because we both have to share the available storage space. I’m not worried about it because I want my wife to by comfortable at my place.” Oak acknowledged that they still have to get used to living together, even though they’ve been a couple for a long time. Once he got a peek inside Opal’s wardrobe, for example, he was astonished. “There are a lot of clothes! I had to give her a hand rearranging them,” he said.
Other than that, Oak hasn’t had any other shocks. “Opal usually takes care of most things. She’s a good cook and takes good care of me. She’s good at cooking Thai dishes and she prepares breakfast too, but sometimes we miss out on that because we have to go to work.”
No weak points at Workpoint
Media veteran Panya Nirankul took advantage of the 56th-anniversary party for his firm Workpoint Entertainment this week to express confidence about the advent of digital TV in Thailand. There’s a slew of digital TV channels coming on-stream, but doubt lingers as to whether all of the broadcasters involved can possibly succeed.
A lot of big-name companies will be competing for viewers’ eyeballs, including the mass-circulation newspaper Thai Rath, showbiz giants GMM Grammy and RS, the Amarin Group, TrueVisions, Voice TV, Intouch and some operation that calls itself the Nation Group.
Panya claimed to be quite sure, though, that there’s enough business around to float the bunch of them and he expects Workpoint to do very well indeed in the fray. “Our concept is creative TV that reflects our personality. We will surely break even within the first year,” he predicted. Workpoint digital TV is scheduled to launch on June 1, following a trial run on April 1. Ninety per cent of its shows will be brand new.
Panya didn’t elaborate as to why he’s so bubbly with confidence in the face of fierce competition, but Workpoint will meanwhile maintain its core business of producing programmes for other TV channels. “We welcome all comments during the trial run and we are more than willing to make further improvements in our programming quality,” he promised.
