ORGANIC skin care and cosmetic products have been growing in popularity in recent years and now one of UK’s best known environmentally friendly brands, Lush, is making a splash in Bangkok with the opening of its own boutique at Siam Center.
Bringing fresh, natural hand-made cosmetics and body care products to Thailand’s fashion and beauty conscious community, the new store is among Lush’s five biggest.
Known and loved for its bright and fizzy bath bombs, which are solid bars of sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, essential oils and natural butters, and boast tantalising fragrances, Lush has brought the full range of its personal care products to the Thai capital. Visitors to the store will discover fresh face masks, exciting shower jellies and smoothies, bubble bars, soaps, solid shampoo, hair dressing products as well as eye jewels makeup and lips blocks. A new, limited edition FAT (Fighting Animal Testing) soap has been specially created for the grand opening of the Bangkok store and will be available while stocks last.
The emphasis is on fresh ingredients like organic fruits and vegetables and the brand guarantees that its products are 83-per-cent vegan, 60-per-cent unpreserved and 40-per-cent “naked” – as in no packaging, no waste.
Steve Blackstone, director of Lush UK, flew into Bangkok to join Phil Alexander, chairman of Lush Thailand and Bob Van Es, operations director, as well as Margaret Tongue, deputy head of mission at the British Embassy in Thailand and Mayuree Chaipromprasith, senior executive vice president of Siam Piwat, at the celebrity-studded opening event.
Founded 21 years ago in Poole, Dorset, Lush products are 100-per-cent vegetarian and naked.
“The innovations are at several levels. Our products are always gluten free and never tested on animals. You will be getting a product that is backed by a strong campaign working on environmental issues, animal welfare, the planet, and human rights. So when customers buy the products they are also buying into the values and ethics behind them. Our products are the most natural and fresh on the market,” he notes.
Fresh ingredients mean that no product is more than six months old. They are lovingly made by hand with a personal touch and an eye on quality. It is also means no excess stock: Lush only makes products as needed to ensure that everything delivered to shops and customers is as fresh as possible. And while product shelf-life is sustained, customers prefer to buy just a few products at a time, bringing back the empty containers and bottle caps to be reused. All plastic packages; jars and bottles are made of recycled materials.
Guests were introduced to the brand’s young, informative and passionate team who has been trained to inspire and assist customers.
And in a nice touch, everyone went home with a knot-wrap full of their chosen personal cares items. Lush’s knot-wrap is inspired by the Japanese art of furoshiki and uses recycled fabrics and material created from waste plastic.
