Red Bull heir’s hit-and-run case makes a mockery of justice system

Re: Police told to obtain arrest warrant for Red Bull heir ‘Boss’. (Front page, April 28).

Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, heir to the Red Bull fortune is accused of running over and killing a police officer in 2012, but again failed to meet the prosecutors last Thursday.
After Vorayuth’s lawyer again requested a postponement on the grounds that he was “preoccupied” overseas, prosecutors said he had obviously been stalling.
It took the police five years to realise that Vorayuth was stalling. This is not
justice, it is a joke.
It has only been because of pressure from the media and Thai citizens that they have made some motion in the case.
The only way Thais will believe in the Thai judicial system is if he is made to answer for the death of the cop that he killed.
Short of that no one will believe in the system of justice here in Thailand until he is brought to justice.
It reminds me of a case in the USA where a rich kid who got drunk and killed some people with his car and was given probation. His defence was he had been spoiled as a rich kid and did not know right from wrong.
Does this sound familiar?

Will the authorities be able to catch him in his Ferrari? Looks like the police officer tried to stop him possibly for speeding [and] the officer felt the full force of this type of car. I hope they find him - he is probably at a racetrack - it's a case of 'I'm a rich kid' and he does what the hell he wants. It would be good to see him behind bars and throw a few ladyboys in his cell; that would stiffen up the case.

The prosecutor has issued the paperwork, so the arrest warrant will be produced. The big question is whether it will be served.
The government are none too popular right now and know that Thai people are pretty pissed off about this case.
IF they cancel the passport (which they should), his days of avoiding justice are done. If they don’t bring him home, I
suspect public anger will boil over.

So he needs to be on the run for another ten years. Law enforcement will make sure he can do it without any problem.

Until such time as Interpol receives an actual request, it is all smoke and mirrors, in my humble opinion.
Who wants to bet on how long it will take for his lawyers to bring a suit to quash the warrant, probably based upon prosecutorial delay!!!

I recall there are actually at least a dozen arrest warrants issued, or not approved for issue, for as many Thais whose whereabouts are well known and who don’t even try to play hide and seek.
Have you seen any of them brought in lately?

There was no hunt before this because there was no arrest warrant. To you and all the other cynics who said this would never happen, I suggest we wait and see.
