Thai-Japanese Rika Ishige suffered her first defeat in the atomweight bout at ONE Championship: KINGS AND CONQUERORS by the hand of Jomary Torres of the Philippines on Saturday in Macau.

Both had their moments, including a dominant first round from the 28-year-old Thai, but it was “The Zamboanginian Fighter” who had her hand raised, scoring a submission victory in a punishing second stanza.

The “Tinydoll” Rika started the first round with a familiar smile, while the 21-year-old Filipino was relaxed in her movement and looked to figure out the timing of her adversary. The early going saw “Tinydoll” counter Torres’ hard kicks with takedowns, utilizing good top control and efficient movement on the ground.

However, it was clear the explosiveness of Torres was always going to be a factor, as she muscled her way out of bad positions.

Despite being one round down, Catalan Fighting System’s Torres was enthused by some of the success she had in the first stanza, and came out swinging hard. The tide turned when she caught one of the Thai’s kicks and dumped her to the mat after landing a barrage of hard shots.

Rika suffers defeat for the first time, but showed her skill in the first round — skill which, on another day, may have gotten her the win. Her star should not fade too much, as she continues to gain experience and entertain.

Rika's reign at One Championship ends

Shannon Wiratchai, right, during a bout with Rajinder Singh Meena.

However Rika’s boyfriend  Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai of Thailand continued his meteoric rise through the ranks with another spectacular first-round knockout victory, this time over India’s Rajinder Singh “Knockout”Meena in the lightweight category.

The Bangkok Fight Lab product authored one of his quickest finishes yet, landing a right knee flush to Meena’s head from the clinch. Referee Olivier Coste wasted no time in calling a halt to the contest once he realized Meena was no longer competitive. The end came officially at 29 seconds of round number one, and is the fastest finish of Wiratchai’s career.

As soon as the bell rang to begin the bout, Wiratchai met Meena at the center of the cage looking to engage. The Thai warrior, known for his unorthodox and highly-unpredictable striking technique, wasted no time in taking the action right to the Indian national.

In a quick turn of events, Wiratchai caught Meena in the clinch and delivered the bout-ending sequence, utilizing his Muay Thai artillery.
