Seven critically acclaimed Italian movies have been selected for the Italian Film Festival Bangkok 2017 and will be screened at Quartier Cine Art on the fourth floor of The EmQuartier from September 12-18.

They are “The Invisible Boy”, “I, Harlequin”, “God Willing”, “Perfect Strangers”, “Like Crazy”, “The Francigena Path” and “Feather” and showcase a contemporary image of Italian culture through comedy, drama, science fiction and documentary.
Italian Ambassador to Thailand, Francesco Saverio Nisio and Thai-Italian actress Ranida “Preem” Techasit will be the guests of honour at the opening ceremony in Quartier Helix Garden at 6.30pm. The festival itself opens with “Like Crazy” (“La Pazza Gioia”), a 2016 comedy centred on two women from different backgrounds who become friends while being treated at a mental institution. The movie was first screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
Three events will be held on the sidelines of the film festival. The first is an Italian-Thai 90-second short film competition being held in cooperation with Benetone Films on the topic “Colour of Italy”, where “Colour” is used in a broad sense to represent the feel, the touch, the smell of Italy in the daily life of Thai people.
The second is a roundtable on film distribution and co-production on the promotion of Italy and Thailand as “locations” for filmmaking and takes place on September 14 at the Italian Embassy. It’s by invitation only.
The last is a workshop on Italian cinema organised by the Dante Alighieri Association in collaboration with Chulalongkorn University on September 16.
Tickets costs from Bt180 to Bt700. Every film will be shown with English and Thai subtitles. For more information or reservations, call (02) 515 5555 or visit www.MajorCineplex.com.
