From finest oysters to rough and ready poutine with a Thai twist, there's plenty to please at Q Bar

Why waste time on a pit stop at some restaurant before a night out when you can eat at the club? Q Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 11 has long been serving up cool music and great vibes to Bangkok party animals; now they’re also serving food till late at night.

Don’t get us wrong. Q Bar hasn’t set up a serious restaurant with dining tables, tablecloths and silver, nor has it suddenly cranked up a smokehouse for a steak dinner. The management has just added food and snacks to the menu to kill late-night hunger pangs and even has a kitchen hidden away at the back. The food is available throughout the club’s many sections. If you’re just hanging out, or waiting for friends to gather before hitting the dancefloor, you can chill out front at the Zoo. For more exclusive and private vibes, head upstairs to Q Up or the Champagne lounge at the back of the second level. You can have a private dinner party or simply party here too. The most stunning addition that’s closest to a restaurant is the Tree House. Taking advantage of the big, lush tree, they’ve build a nest around it, creating a cosy, wooden cocoon that can house only a few people. You can chill with your drinks or dine properly. Once in a while, the bar will invite celebrated chefs from renowned restaurants all over Bangkok for an exclusive wine dinner. Foodies, stay tuned!
Grab a menu and order a plate of crunchy and savoury Toast BKK (Bt395) to share with your gang. The wanton flour sheet is deep-fried, then topped with wasabi cream, sesame-crusted tuna, spring onion and ebiko caviar. There’s a New York version of this dish, too. The addictive Toast NYC (Bt395) is made of bite-sized toast layered with smoked salmon, cream, cheese, caper, dill, pickled shallot and caviar. These two dishes contain seriously addictive content: make sure you order enough for everyone in the group!
Quebec’s favourite side dish, poutine, is served here, too. This is probably one of the very few joints in Bangkok where you can get a proper bowl of original, authentic poutine – with french fries and imported St Hubert gravy from Montreal. Do be a little more adventurous though and order get the Poutine Thai (Bt285) with a local twist. The savoury, herbal Northern-style sausage is seared, chopped into pieces and sprinkled on top of the dish along with the salty-and-sweet gravy. It’s quite a strange combination, but the flavours work well together. Also, it’s really filling.
Prefer something a little more sophisticated? Head to Le Derriere, a 1930’s French salon with its own menu that also offers an array of French wines, bubbly, Absinthe and vintage cocktails.
Get off to a fresh and cool start with a plate of fresh Fine de Claire no 3 oysters that come in Bt80 a pop. Better yet, get a delicatessen plate (Bt290) with sliced saucisson or a cheese platter (Bt390) with five different types of French cheese to accompany your wine.
