The prestigious award was established for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday next year.
Deputy Education Minister Krissanapong Kiratikorn, in his capacity as chairman of the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation, said the selection process in Thailand would consider public nomination of teachers who have brought better changes to their students’ lives and to education in Thailand.
Those eligible to nominate candidates are:
Alumni over the age of 25;
Basic education institutes, with the approval of the school committee;
An association, foundation or education-related organisation.
Nominations can be submitted at the respective provincial Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, then a provincial committee will shortlist candidates according to each province’s quota. This list of nominees will then be submitted to the central committee.
The foundation is slated to approve award winners by May next year with the awards handed out in October.
Teachers who have made it to the provincial shortlist will get the “Khru Kwan Sit” award, while those who pass the central committee’s selection will receive “Ying Khun” awards and those who make the final list will get the “Khunakorn” awards.
The Princess Maha Chakri Award will only be handed out to one winner from Thailand.
