
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts thunderstorms over 60% of southern Thailand’s west coast on October 1, 2026, the highest coverage in its regional outlook. The department’s 24-hour forecast covers the period from 6am on October 1 to 6am on October 2, Thailand time.
The TMD urged people in Thailand to remain alert to thunderstorm hazards. A weak south-westerly monsoon is prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, while southerly and south-easterly winds are blowing over the Gulf.
Andaman waves could exceed 2 metres in thunderstorms
The TMD’s October 1 marine forecast puts waves in the upper Andaman Sea at 1–2 metres, rising above 2 metres in thunderstorms. Mariners in both the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to avoid sailing through thunderstorm areas.
Southern west coast faces 60% thunderstorm coverage
The TMD forecasts thunderstorms over 60% of the southern west coast during October 1–2, mainly in Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Satun. Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 23–25°C and maximum temperatures from 33–36°C.
From Phang Nga northwards, the TMD expects south-westerly winds of 15–35km/h during the forecast period, with waves of 1–2 metres and above 2 metres in thunderstorms.
From Phuket southwards, south-westerly winds are forecast at 15–30km/h during October 1–2, according to the TMD. Waves will be about 1 metre high, exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorms.
Along the southern east coast, the TMD forecasts thunderstorms over 40% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla and Yala. Minimum temperatures will be 23–25°C and maximum temperatures 33–36°C, with south-easterly winds of 15–30km/h. Waves will be about 1 metre high, rising above 2 metres in thunderstorms.
Bangkok and most upper regions face 30% thunderstorm coverage
Bangkok and surrounding areas are forecast to have thunderstorms over 30% of the metropolitan area during October 1–2, according to the TMD. Minimum temperatures will be 26–27°C and maximum temperatures 34–36°C, with southerly winds of 10–20km/h.
In the North, the TMD expects thunderstorms over 20% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun. Minimum temperatures will range from 22–26°C and maximum temperatures from 31–36°C, with south-westerly winds of 10–20km/h.
The Northeast’s October 1–2 forecast puts thunderstorm coverage at 30%, mainly in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani, according to the TMD. Minimum temperatures will be 23–25°C and maximum temperatures 34–36°C, with westerly winds of 10–20km/h.
In the Central region, the TMD forecasts thunderstorms over 30% of the area during October 1–2, mainly in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Lop Buri and Saraburi. Minimum temperatures will be 23–26°C and maximum temperatures 34–36°C, with southerly winds of 10–20km/h.
The East is forecast to have thunderstorms over 30% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, according to the TMD. Minimum temperatures will be 24–26°C and maximum temperatures 31–34°C, with southerly winds of 15–30km/h. Waves will be about 1 metre high, exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorms.
