Siam Amazing Park flood damage raises permanent closure risk

Founder Chaiwat Luangamornlert puts damage and recovery costs at no less than THB500 million and appeals for financial support to save the park.

  • Siam Amazing Park in Thailand has closed after being completely submerged by severe flooding.
  • The park is expected to remain shut for a minimum of six months to allow for restoration and safety checks.
  • Initial estimates place the damage and recovery costs at over THB500 million.
  • The park's future is uncertain, as its founder stated it could close permanently without financial aid from the government and banks.

Dr Chaiwat Luangamornlert, executive chairman and founder of Siam Amazing Park (Suan Siam), described the biggest crisis of his life on Thursday (October 1, 2026), after severe flooding submerged the entire water park and amusement park.

The attraction must close for at least six months, with preliminary damage estimated at more than THB500 million.

“This is a time when our country has suffered damage nationwide. We are the country with the least damage, yet we are the worst off because preventive action or assistance has not come in time. Now I speak as the owner of Siam Amazing Park, a small city within Bangkok, a city for tourism. We too have suffered damage. The bigger you are, the more you lose.”

Siam Amazing Park submerged with damage exceeding THB500 million

The flooding has severely affected Siam Amazing Park, a tourist attraction and a source of happiness for children and the wider public.

The park had received no advance information that flooding would be this severe.

Despite reports of an approaching storm, the severity of the flooding far exceeded what the park had anticipated.

Damage and recovery costs are estimated at no less than THB500 million.

These include about THB300 million to repair rides and structures, more than THB100 million in labour costs and staff support during the closure, as well as improvements and other expenses for which funding must be raised.

At least six months of closure

The floods struck during the school holidays, normally an important period when pupils visit for recreation, learning and swimming lessons.

Being unable to open the park left Chaiwat so distressed that he could not sleep.

With the area declared a disaster zone, Siam Amazing Park must remain closed for at least six months while restoration work is carried out to make it safe and ready to bring happiness to the public again.

Not worried about himself but worried about employees

“I am not worried about myself. I am 90 years old, but I worry about the people behind me. I worry about daily and monthly workers on low incomes who have come from other provinces. When employees came to me in tears, worried about what they would eat during the six months we are closed, I cried with them,” Chaiwat said.

“I am saddened for every province in Thailand experiencing something like this. Everyone’s homes have been affected, rich and poor alike. Now we are all equally poor. In our country, rich and poor people are equally poor now. Do not be sad, thinking you could not be any poorer. The word ‘poor’ may sound bad, but being poor means having to start again. What is bad is when we do not start again.”

“I must thank Thai people throughout the country who have sent encouragement through Facebook and IG, shown me sympathy and hoped I could recover quickly. Siam Amazing Park is part of Thailand. I have built a sizeable kingdom. When most is damaged, I suffer losses too.”

Appeal to financial institutions and government as park could recover or become only a legend

“I still do not know how much help we will receive from the government or from the bank we use, or whether it will be enough to restore Siam Amazing Park. Even though running the park brings losses every year, I am happy every year.”

“Even so, I am very proud. Rich and poor—unable to cope. It is the same; they are both words. Rich today, poor tomorrow; poor tomorrow, rich the day after. That is possible. I want to encourage people throughout the country who have had similar experiences. Our losses are no different.”

“Some people have little money, so losing even that much is a considerable loss. Those who have more lose more. Let us start again and help one another again. Let us help our country prosper and help our country’s weather pass.”

The future and recovery of Siam Amazing Park depend on genuine assistance from the government, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and financial institutions.

If assistance measures and recovery loans materialise, Siam Amazing Park is ready to continue operating in Thailand.

If the promises made by those involved amount to nothing more than “all talk”, with no real help, however, the park would have to close permanently.
