Partnership between LUMA and Wattanosoth Cancer Hospital (Bangkok Hospital) to set a new standard by being the first and only of its kind in Asia.

LUMA, the international insurance specialist in health and travel solutions, and Wattanosoth Cancer Hospital,  member of Bangkok Hospital (BDMS Group) and specializing in cancer treatment in Thailand, have recently announced an unprecedented collaboration in the field of cancer treatment. Both organizations signed a Collaborative Agreement in May 2023 to formalize their partnership and work together to enhance the management of care for cancer patients.

Every member under LUMA’s health insurance plans has the privilege of utilizing the expertise of the organization's in-house medical team for second opinions and medical referrals, guaranteeing the best treatment at the most appropriate medical facility.

For several years, ethics have been on the forefront of LUMA’s operations. Any newly diagnosed tumor or cancer is directly escalated to our Medical Team who immediately contact the cancer center to set up a Multidisciplinary Tumor Board (MTB). The MTB aims to gather a team of specialists to jointly review and assess a cancer case. The first goal of the MTB is to confirm the diagnosis (similar to a second medical opinion), then to define the best course of treatment for an optimum outcome. The outcome of a MTB is always presented to the patient so they can be confident in their future decisions moving forward.

The significance of a MTB is particularly noteworthy in Asia as it addresses the issue of cancer treatments being often solely determined by individual doctors without comprehensive input from other cancer experts. The MTB provides a holistic approach by involving a diverse team of specialists who contribute their expertise. This team typically includes all relevant oncology specialists of the type of cancer under consideration. Together, they collaborate to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.

By leveraging the collective knowledge and experience of the MTB, patients benefit from a well-rounded and informed treatment approach that considers all relevant aspects of their condition.
