Thai police detained a 31-year-old Japanese man at Suvarnabhumi Airport after authorities linked him to an alleged yakuza-backed call-centre scam network operating from Cambodia and targeting victims in Japan.
Amnesty International says Cambodia’s online scam industry has expanded despite a nationwide crackdown, with identified scam centres rising from 53 to 86 over the past year and many alleged victims still lacking protection.
