The company is now expressing confidence in its ability to defend its top spot in the luxury car segment for the 11th consecutive year.
Mercedes-Benz (Thailand)’s president and chief executive Alexander Paufler said the company had seen immediate results from its new business strategies for the fourth quarter. These began in September when the company introduced nine new models, along with a 2 to 5-per-cent price reduction for seven models.
The September sales figure leaped by 122 per cent over the previous month, helping to create a new sales record, with accumulated sales since the beginning of 2011 reaching a new high of 3,553 vehicles, or a 3.5-per-cent rise over the first nine months of 2010.
Paufler said the introduction of the new C-Class Coupe Edition 1, the new-generation C-Class with 7G-Tronic Plus transmission, and the C 200 BlueEfficiency had all been positive to overall sales.
Other highlights included the only petrol and natural gas-powered premium car on the market, the E 200 NGT BlueEfficiency Elegance; the new SLK 200 BlueEfficiency Sports AMG; and the S 500 BlueEfficiency Long Wheel Base with the new V8 BlueDirect engine.
In September, 231 C-Class cars were sold for a 328-per-cent increase over sales in August; 220 E-Class cars were sold for a 54-per-cent increase over August; 50 S-Class cars were sold, posting a 213-per-cent month-on-month increase; and niche models sold 80 units for a 63-per-cent increase over the previous month.
Mercedes-Benz (Thailand)’s general manager for marketing and communications Komkrit Nongsawat said the biggest contribution to the record sales was made by the company’s proactive marketing schemes, including the ongoing 125th anniversary promotional offers.
The strong sales reflected customers’ confidence and appreciation of the brand’s after-sales service and customer care, he said. Officially distributed Mercedes-Benz vehicles come with a three-year warranty with unlimited kilometres plus an exclusive Star Assist programme of 24-hour roadside assistance.
“As we continue to receive good orders in this fourth quarter, we will maintain our proactive marketing strategies to expand our customer base as well as emphasising to our existing customers our commitment to premium vehicle quality and excellent after-sales service.
“We will continue to stand firm as Thailand’s top luxury-car maker. For our success, we thank our loyal customers, who not only have faith in the superior quality, ultimate road safety and value of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, but are also confident in purchasing from the reliable network of our authorised dealers,” Komkrit said.
