Chevrolet's 2011 sales hit 4,300

Chevrolet Sales Thailand's 2011 sales hit 4,300 units, representing a growth of 58 per cent from the previous year.

In terms of units, it is the highest since the company started operations in Thailand.
As of December, the automaker gained a market share of eight per cent in Thailand, 122 per cent higher than the same month in 2010.
“It came from across the model range. We have exceeded the sales targets of each model, and the Chevrolet Captiva did exceptionally well. When we launched the new Captiva back in August (2011), we aimed to sell 5,000 units by the end of 2011. We have exceeded that number. In December 2011 alone, we sold more than 1,500 Captivas. The Centennial editions of the Captiva and Cruze also received very positive response since their introduction at the Motor Expo 2011,” said Antonio Zara, vice president, Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, General Motors Thailand/Southeast Asia and Chevrolet Sales Thailand.
While Toyota Motor Thailand anticipates total sales of 1.1 million vehicles this year, Chevrolet expects the industry to sell 950,000 units, as the industry and the nation recovers from a tumultuous last quarter in 2011. Chevrolet noted that pent-up demand due to the flooding crisis may drive the industry beyond the projected figure.
Chevrolet last year also showed bigger sales in other markets in Southeast Asia, particularly in key markets including Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Malaysia continued to post three-digit growth, at 126 per cent, over the same period in 2010, against a 1 per cent contraction in the overall industry. Sales in the Philippines and Indonesia expanded 37 per cent and 12 per cent, respectively.
"And we have so much more coming in 2012 – more great and new products, and more dealer-points in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. There will also be more customer-centric activities in all markets," said Martin Apfel, president, South East Asia Operations, General Motors Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand.
He said Chevrolet sets its sights on breaking this new record in 2012.
