Chevrolet ranked No.1 non-Japanese brand in Thailand

Chevrolet Sales Thailand sold 31,595 vehicles to register a four-percent market share in 2011 and a year-on-year (YOY) growth of 58 per cent over 2010.

The automaker sustained this growth momentum into 2012, selling 3,785 vehicles in January 2012, which translated to a market share of 4.96 per cent, versus 2.8 per cent in January 2011. Consequently, Chevrolet became the number one non-Japanese automotive brand in the Thai market in January 2012. Chevrolet’s January 2012 sales also represented a 95-percent increase over the same month in 2011.
In terms of models sold, the Chevrolet Captiva was first overall in the SUV-C segment in 2011, selling 6,095 units and commanding a 45-percent segment share. In January 2012, 711 units of the Captiva were sold, making it the best-selling SUV-C for the month with a segment share of 83 per cent.
“This is definitely a very good start to the year. There is still a long way to go, but based on the momentum of last year’s growth, plus new and exciting products we will be introducing this year, including entry into new market segments, I am confident we will remain very competitive moving forward,” said Antonio Zara, vice president, Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, GM Thailand/SEA and Chevrolet Sales Thailand.
“We expect the Colorado’s sales to increase when the crew-cab variant starts selling at the end of February 2012. Pent-up demand due to the flooding crisis a few months ago, the first-car tax-rebate, a first full year of sales and segment growth are also expected to boost sales figures for the all-new Colorado.”
Thailand's automotive industry grew by 39.7 per cent in January 2012 compared with December 2011. It grew by 11.5 per cent compared with January 2011.
