The Information and Communications Technology Ministry has joined with Brunei's Authority for Information and Communication Technology Industry, Asean and the CIO16 Association of Thailand to host the first CIO Forum next month.

“It serves as a forum for CIOs [chief information officers] to exchange their knowledge and experiences to forge even closer cooperation in information and communications technology among Asean member countries,” Jirawan Boonperm, permanent secretary of the ICT Ministry, said yesterday.
“The event is one key measure to boost competitiveness for sustainable economic growth and to serve the Asean Economic Community in 2015, welcoming 600 participants from the 10 Asean member countries.”
The forum, to be held from April 19-20 at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Lat Phrao in Bangkok, is aimed at being a stage for Asean countries to share and exchange lessons learned from ICT development and deployment, and to move forward with ICT development, ICT transformation and ICT crowd sourcing within Asean.
The event is part of the Asean ICT Master Plan 2015, which outlines the bloc’s ICT development through the promotion of innovations and closer cooperation in ICT development among the government, business and public sectors in each country along with all parties.
Chaicharearn Atibaedya, chairman of the CIO16 Association, said the forum was also intended to encourage CIOs to realise their roles, prepare themselves and carry out steps to cope with the changes coming in 2015.
There will be a round-table discussion with Asean CIOs on creating a work ethic and sharing responsibilities. This may spark a new set of policies to push for ICT implementation together in Asean, he said.
Kumpol Sontanarat, a member of the CIO16 Association, said there would be many interesting topics covering all ICT-related aspects such as cloud computing, cloud security, convergence of network, cyber-security, cyber-forensics, and Asean governance, risk management and compliance (GRC). It also covers the education aspect such as how to employ ICT to manage such disasters as tsunamis or floods, or how to work on the reconciliation of people from various ethnic minorities in a country.
Other topics are royal ICT-related initiatives for the quality of life of Thais by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and CIOs’ visions for preparing Asean for a greater future as one community.
