FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer Appliances enable high-performance and broad network protection throughout the 22 offices in the country

Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) − a leading network security provider and the worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions − today announced that the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has deployed Fortinet's FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer security appliances to help secure its expanded communication network covering the Bangkok headquarters (HQ) and 21 remote offices located throughout the country. DNP chose Fortinet's solutions for their high performance, ease of management and cost effectiveness.

DNP is an organization under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. It is tasked to conserve Thailand's national parks through research and by promoting community-driven initiatives to protect and restore local flora and fauna.  In 2009, DNP started exploring the expansion of its communication network to link its HQ with field researchers and staff located in remote offices in national parks and natural reserves throughout Thailand.

In 2011, in order to protect its expanded network, DNP decided to deploy the FortiGate-200B integrated multi-threat security and FortiAnalyzer-100C centralized reporting appliances in each of its 21 remote offices. Together with previously installed  Fortinet appliances − FortiGate-5020 chassis for Internet gateway, FortiAnalyzer-2000B for centralized reporting and FortiMail™-2000A for messaging security − at DNP's Bangkok HQ, the consolidated security solution provides firewall, VPN, IPS, antivirus, antispam, Web filtering and application control protection to the network while significantly enhancing its efficiency.

“FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer work impressively well together to deliver seamless management, better visibility and greater control over application traffic,” said Aniruth Thanomwatana, IT Director at DNP. “The improved vulnerability management and faster logging and reporting system have also given my departmental staff more time to focus on improving service levels. Overall, we are very pleased with our Fortinet investment."
The FortiGate-200B appliance delivers wire-speed performance and integrated threat management at an affordable price. Purpose-built processors provide up to 5 Gbps firewall throughput, enabling organizations such as DNP to protect their applications and network without affecting performance.
The FortiAnalyzer-100C appliance securely aggregates, analyzes, and reports on log data gathered from the FortiGate devices. It helps provide detailed information on traffic, events, viruses, attacks, Web content, etc to determine the organization’s security stance and assure regulatory compliance.

DNP’s new network links 4,000 officers in Bangkok to their 2,000 colleagues in the remote locations. It also supports the organization's official website, which draws more than 10,000 visitors monthly, and executes the online accommodation reservation services. The organization now plans to partner with Fortinet for the next phase of its network expansion, which will cover five training centres.

"From Day One, Fortinet has designed its solutions to bring high performance, flexible and easily manageable security to the enterprise,” said Peerapong Jongvibool, Fortinet's Country Manager for Thailand. “We’re very pleased to see that our solutions were able to deliver business value to DNP for close to a decade, and will continue to do so for years to come."
