PACC toughens actions against grey vehicles
PACC Secretary-General Pol Col Dusadee Arayawuth said after the meeting that the agency found that several owners of such vehicles produced fabricated document, to avoid paying full taxes. Some misstated the manufacturing date, as older cars are subjected lower tariff by 20-25 per cent. Others claimed their vehicles were brand-new, despite records at overseas service centres.
"About 4-5 finance companies are found to have extended loans. Now, they are notified of the problems. About 300 vehicles imported from Britain are waiting for registration paper and loans. They are warned to run thorough background checks, particularly when the car prices are below market levels," he said.
PACC recently found evidence of false tariff payments for the import of 28 Ferraris. The evidence would be forwarded to the Department of Special Investigation next week.
