Chevrolet motor show sales better than hoped

Chevrolet Sales Thailand broke its order target by 9.9 per |cent at the 33rd Bangkok International Motor Show that just ended, taking orders for 3,664 units - it anticipated 3,333 - after debuting the all-new Trailblazer at the event.

While organisers of the show expected orders to pass 40,000 units, the real result was 57,058 units.

The most popular models were the Captiva, Cruze and Colorado. Even the Trailblazer, which is not slated to hit showrooms before the middle of the year, clinched 500 deals.

Antonio Zara, vice president of sales, marketing and after |sales and general manager of Thailand/SEA, said yesterday that Chevrolet’s orders at this year’s show were 115 per cent higher than last year.

"The strength of our global products and the global reach of the Chevrolet brand are gaining an even stronger foothold among motorists in Thailand, and this has resulted in a very strong business performance for us as we move into the second quarter of 2012," he said.

In line with its growth plans and the need to strengthen |its production and operations teams, Chevrolet held a Career Corner at the show, which was in essence a call-to-action platform for people who would like to |start a career in the automobile industry.

The Career Corner was an extension to General Motors’ recruitment campaign that started earlier this year. The aim is to increase the headcount of skilled employees to 5,200 by the middle of the year.
