This has enabled the company to achieve sales of 14,200 vehicles in the first quarter, reflecting a growth of 67 per cent. Sales of Mazda BT-50 PRO pickup trucks exceeded 2,400, while the Mazda2 Elegance sedan and Sport hatchback maintained its momentum with combined sales of 3,317. The Mazda3 also maintained its leadership in the compact hatchback market with sales of 259 units.
Mazda Sales (Thailand) managing director Choichi Yuki said the Thai automobile market has been highly active since the start of 2012, especially in the 1-tonne pickup truck market that witnessed all-new model launches by a large number of manufacturers during the last quarter last year.
Meanwhile, the small car market has attracted buyers with affordable pricing, and there is very high demand from consumers.
“Manufacturers are also starting to produce more vehicles, and the auto market in the first quarter surged to unprecedented levels, particularly for Mazda with sales of 14,264 vehicles, a rise of 43 per cent compared to the same period last year,” he said.
Yuki added that Mazda sold more vehicles in March. “We sold 6,001 vehicles, which is the highest monthly sales figure Mazda has ever achieved. This is equivalent to a growth of 67 per cent compared to the corresponding month last year. We were also able to deliver 2,422 Mazda BT-50 PRO to customers, representing a rise of 132 per cent, and we still have a back order of 7,000 that we’re trying our best to deliver as soon as possible. In addition, combined sales of both Mazda2 models amounted to 3,317, up 56 per cent, while 259 Mazda3s were sold. Two MX-5 roadsters and one CX-9 luxury crossover were also sold,” he added.
Mazda also benefitted from the recently concluded Bangkok International Motor Show.
The company’s combined sales in Quarter One were 14,264 vehicles, a 43-per-cent increase year-on-year. Combined sales of the Mazda2 Elegance and Sport models were 9,741, a growth of 63 per cent, followed by the BT-50 PRO sports pickup with 3,633. Deliveries of the BT-50 PRO have just taken shape. Meanwhile, 881 Mazda3s were sold – down 37 per cent compared to the same period last year. As for premium models, seven MX-5 roadsters and 2 CX-9 luxury sports crossovers were sold.
