NEC CASIO Mobile Communications recently announced its agreement with SiS Distribution (Thailand) Public Co., Ltd. (SiS), one of Thailand’s leading IT equipment distributors, to market and sell NEC CASIO’s MEDIAS NEC-101S – a stylish yet water and dust proof Android smartphone in the Thai market.
Sales of the MEDIAS NEC-101S is expected to commence in Thailand before the Songkran festival and offered at 12,900 Baht, marking NEC’s first overseas venture to promote its MEDIAS phones globally.
SiS is one of Thailand’s leading distributors of IT equipment, including PCs and smartphones, with a sales network of over 1,000 companies domestically, primarily focused in Bangkok. SiS boasts the greatest sales strength in Thailand’s smartphone market, where the company holds an exceptional market share.
NEC Corporation (NEC) started its mobile terminal business in 1987. Since then, NEC has been providing many advanced mobile terminals, and a leading manufacturer in Japan. In 2010, NEC CASIO was established to integrate Mobile Terminal Operations Unit of NEC and CASIO HITACHI Mobile Communications.
In 2011, the Thai smartphone market consisted of approximately 5.4 million units. In 2014, the sales for smartphones is expected to expand to about 10 million units (SA Research 2011 estimate).
