GM ready to export Colorado from Thailand

General Motors Thailand is preparing to export Chevrolet Colorado to international markets, including Australia, the Middle East and later next year, Russia, after the global launch of the midsize pickup in Thailand - where it is manufactured - last Octob

Unde the export programme, Thailand will be Chevrolet’s hub for midsize trucks. Global media were recently in Thailand for a test drive, aside from some 50 dealers/customers from Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
“The plant tour was absolutely fantastic. It was a great opportunity for GM Thailand to show us the all-new Colorado and the all-new Trailblazer, which we will introduce to the Middle East markets. I can tell you from the initial reaction of the group that these trucks will be very well-received in the Middle East," said John Stadwick, President and Managing Director of GM Middle East Operations, who led the group.
To ensure it can meet increased demands from local, regional and global markets, GM will be establishing a third shift for its lines in Rayong, Thailand. The Duramax Engine plant will also implement a third shift in May 2012. In all, the Colorado export programme will enhance GM’s and Thailand’s presence on the automotive world map, open more job opportunities for skilled workers in Thailand, and contribute to the revenue of the automotive industry in Thailand.
“In spite of record demand in our Southeast Asian markets, we do not anticipate any capacity issues as our car and truck lines have been designed with a high level of flexibility. We are able to react quickly to increasing requirements, and will meet our customers’ demands,” said Martin Apfel, president of GM Thailand/SEA and Chevrolet Sales Thailand.
He continued, “GM and Chevrolet Thailand are playing a key role in the Colorado’s global programme. It clearly shows that the quality and manufacturing capability of the more than 4,600 employees in Thailand meet global standards.
