Microsoft (Thailand) announced that the latest version of the world’s most widely deployed data platform, Microsoft® SQL Server 2012, is now available to customers in Thailand. SQL Server 2012 helps address the challenges of increasing data volumes by rapidly turning data into actionable business insights.
According to Gartner, information volume is growing worldwide at a minimum annual rate of 59% with roughly 85% of the data now being “unstructured” and not readily suited for traditional data management systems.[i]
“Data is being generated faster than ever before, and organizations need a way to process and analyze all that data. Whatever the type or size of data, SQL Server 2012 delivers the platform and familiar tools to manage data, generate actionable insights and help drive business impact. This will help organizations in Thailand to accelerate their business and take the lead in the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community 2015,” said Panjaporn Vittayalerdpun, Server Business Group Lead, Microsoft (Thailand) Limited.
SQL Server 2012 is part of Microsoft’s Business Accelerating Plan solutions, designed to help bring organizations to a higher level. The cloud-ready information platform meets industry-required high availability and performance capabilities at a leading Total Cost of Ownership. The solution was labeled as a “Potential Game Changer” by research firm IDC in a white paper released in January this year[ii].
Sripatum University and AC Milan
Sripatum University from Bangkok is one of the many customers in Thailand that benefit from SQL Server technology. “After a fast and smooth implementation process, we now rely on SQL Server 2012 technology to analyze the data of new student application of all degrees (bachelor, master and doctorate) at all campuses. Such student information also links with student ID cards for the university’s smart system. This allows us to structure the data and make well-informed business decisions. Thanks to the simple interface and the link with familiar programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint, staff members find it easy to use,” says Mr. Poramate Piansakul, Director of Information Technology and Communication (ICT), Sripatum University.
SQL Server also plays a key role in Milan Lab, the renowned training and testing facilities of the famous Italian football club AC Milan. Thanks to the Microsoft technology, players and staff are able to analyze and act upon the huge amount of data on the health and fitness of the squad members.
SQL Server 2012 has also already been deployed for production use by hundreds of global, industry-leading customers, such as Volvo Car Corp., Revlon, the HSN, Sanofi Pasteur, Klout and LG Chemical.
Reduced downtime and interactive visualizations
A key feature in SQL Server 2012 that will help reduce planned and unplanned downtime is the new integrated high availability and disaster recovery solution – SQL Server AlwaysOn. Furthermore, end users will be able to quickly unlock breakthrough insights within billions of rows of data with PowerPivot built on Excel and Power View for stunning, interactive data visualizations and broad adoption.
“With the new SQL Server Developer Tools, IT managers and developers will be able to more quickly respond to new business demands and opportunities. Developers will only need to build applications once and then IT teams can deploy them on their choice of traditional datacenters, appliances, private clouds and the Windows® Azure™ public cloud – including SQL Azure,” Ms. Panjaporn further said.
Panjaporn concluded: “SQL Server 2008 R2 was the most secure of any of the major database platforms and delivered six nines (99.9999%) uptime availability[iii]. SQL Server 2012 will continue this trend, which will further solidify the platform’s position as one of the leading database servers and information platforms globally.”
