The new Boxster is faster and more agile, thanks to an all-new lightweight body design and a completely revamped chassis. According to Porsche, it gets a longer wheelbase and wider track plus larger wheels, combining to significantly enhance the mid-engined sportscar’s driving dynamics.
The Boxster comes with a 2.7-litre engine capable of producing 265hp at 6,700rpm and 280Nm from 4,500-6,500rpm. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 5.8 seconds -- 5.7 secs with the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox and 5.5 secs with the Sport Chrono Package. The top speed is claimed to be 264km/h (262km/h for the PDK) while average fuel consumption is a claimed 8.2 litres/100km (7.7 litres/100km for the PDK).
Meanwhile, the Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-litre flat 6 pumping out 315hp at 6,700rpm and 360Nm from 4,500-5,800rpm. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 5.1 seconds (5 secs for the PDK, 4.8 secs with the Sport Chrono Package). Top speed is claimed to be 279km/h (277km/h for the PDK) and average fuel consumption is a claimed 8.8 litres per 100km (8 litres per 100km for the PDK).
Apart from direct fuel injection, thermal management and electrical system recuperation, the Boxster comes with the auto engine start/stop function. They combine to offer 15 per cent better fuel efficiency, with the Boxster averaging less than 9 litres of fuel per 100km (11.1km/litre).
