Facilitated by IBM, the exclusive event is designed to identify early stage entrepreneurs who are developing business ventures that align with IBM Smarter Planet vision.
SmartCamp KickStart events are part of IBM’s Global Entrepreneur Programme. The events bring together startup companies with technology experts, venture capitalists and serial entrepreneurs for mentoring and development. Participating companies will have access to support and resources in terms of products, people, and promotion.
Applications for SmartCamp KickStart Singapore are now open across ASEAN countries and will close on August 24, 2012. Finalists will be announced on August 31, 2012 and will be asked to present their business idea in front of a panel of IT experts at the SmartCamp KickStart event in Singapore on September 10, 2012. The ASEAN winner will receive 12 weeks of mentorship from IBM, as well as the chance to progress to the Asia SmartCamp event in Beijing on 24 September 2012. The selected finalist of the Beijing stage will then go on to the IBM SmartCamp Global Finals to vie for the top spot as IBM Entrepreneur of the Year.

In 2010 and 2011, 20 SmartCamp events were held around the world. In each location, five finalists were selected for a one to two day event to network with 25 world-class entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts. Since the inception of SmartCamps, start-ups have received more than US$60 Million in venture capital funding.
