EMC banks on 3 IT solutions, including cloud computing

IT company EMC aims to provide solutions supporting business with virtualisation, cloud computing and handling big data - that is, data sets so large and complex that they are difficult to work with using on-hand database management tools.

EMC will also join with a business partner on a government cloud-services project.

Nathakorn Potejanasaja, country manager of EMC Information Systems (Thailand), a provider of information-technology solutions, said the firm would focus on three categories: cloud computing, big data, and security.
For the cloud category, the firm provides VCE Vblock, a family of systems allowing businesses to adapt towards virtualisation and cloud computing.
It also offers VSPEX, a set of complete virtualisation solutions designed for small and medium-sized enterprises that want to transform their infrastructure into the cloud.
EMC has also joined with Internet service providers to provide public cloud service to businesses on a subscription basis.
The firm this year will also work with a business partner to provide solutions to support the next stage of the government’s cloud services project.
Nathakorn said: “I think cloud computing in Thailand is an emerging market. The government last year spent about Bt59.8 billion on IT, and about 75 per cent of that was for maintenance and the rest for new equipment. Therefore, cloud computing has a huge opportunity to grow in this market.”
For big data, the company provides the US-based Greenplum solution, which helps enterprises accelerate and improve their business agility. It also provides green data warehouse engines and content-management solutions to the market.
In the last category, security, EMC provides back-up recovery systems for businesses of all sizes.
Nathakorn said the IT market in the first half of this year had seen a downturn, affected by last year’s flood.
The market is starting to recover in the current half. The firm expects that the third quarter will be a turning point creating market growth.
EMC expects single-digit revenue growth this year.
