Winners for eight categories of Thai innovations have been selected and announced.
The announcement was made Friday in a project under cooperation between the Intellectual Property Department of Commerce Ministry and Google.
The event was held to promote Thai innovation and creativity by highlighting the key factors that contribute to the country's continued creativity with the publication of a research report entitled “Innovation Thailand.”
The winners were called “Innovation Idols Thailand” and they are Thai role models who use the Internet creatively and innovatively and these announcements intend to increase the potential for economic growth so that the country will be ready to join the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
Intellectual Property Director-General Mrs Pajchima Tanasanti said her department was glad to support this Innovation Thailand project in order to promote innovation and creativity as well as to enhance the intellectual property of Thais.
“The department believes that a way to develop this effectively would be to integrate policy guidelines with various agencies and organizations in many dimensions. The Department realizes the importance of technology and particularly of the Internet which is capable of being used for creativity and innovation and for developing more commercial intellectual property while also being a medium to encourage respect for intellectual property rights and believes that it would enable an intellectual property network to be built at all levels in the future,” she added.
In drawing up the procedures for Innovation Thailand during meetings among innovation and creativity stakeholders in Thailand, four main factors that drive innovation were identified:
● Access and infrastructure
● Education and the development of human resources
● Regulations and governance
● Distributed access to investment capital
Innovation and creativity are essential for all industry sectors and businesses in order to drive Thailand's future growth and development with the Internet being a tool for the rapid advance of innovation in various forms. The Innovation Idol group comprises the names of several Thais who have played a role in innovation and creativity and who have been evaluated and selected and who are honored to be the first Innovation Thailand idols.

The Internet is the most effective infrastructure for creativity, for the exchange of ideas as well as for the creation of jobs. Innovation Thailand is about recognizing Thailand’s potential, encouraging the next generation of Thai innovators and identifying areas where we can work together to remove obstacles to innovation for the benefit of all of Thailand. The platform to take Thailand to a global stage is ready, the question is are we?”
