LINE, the world's leading mobile messenger with social network service, announced that it achieved 100 million users today.

At the celebratory event in Japan for hitting the 100 million milestone, NHN Japan’s CEO Akira Morikawa said “We have been able to reach 100 million users globally.
We have strived to always be one step ahead of users’ needs and have offered a wide variety of services to meet their quickly changing wants. Our efforts have been paid off, as evident in the continuous upward trend of users joining LINE, resulting in reaching our 100 million user mark.”
He added that, “Based on LINE’s dynamic movement, we will tap into this momentum to further reinforce our contents to become the world’s number 1 communication service.”
Since its release in June 2011 as a smartphone messenger service, LINE offered free calling and sticker features the same year in October. The following year, LINE rolled out more entertaining and interactive features like LINE Camera, Official Accounts, and even games that are currently leading the mobile SNS game market.
Through the successive releases of new features, LINE has been able to successfully position itself in the mobile messaging market, with the sharp increase in users overseas including the Middle East, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia. In particular, LINE had achieved 10 million users in both Thailand and Taiwan, claiming the title as Thailand’s and Taiwan’s most representative mobile messenger.
Moreover, LINE also saw growth in the number of users in the Eastern Europe region including Russia and Spanish speaking countries like Spain, Chile and Mexico. Not only is the number of users joining the LINE community rapidly augmenting, but also the frequency in which users use LINE is worth spotlighting. Currently, LINE is recording an average of 3 million new users subscribing to LINE per week and maintaining an impressive 80.3 per cent Monthly Active User figure.
