GM enjoys 2% sales increase in Southeast Asia

General Motors' sales in Southeast Asia rose 2 per cent year on year to 7,073 vehicles last month, which the company says demonstrates a successful product line-up across multiple segments in showrooms throughout the region.

In the first six months, Chevrolet’s sales were even stronger, up 5 per cent to 41,866 units in the region.
The all-new Spin compact minivan broke sales records in Indonesia, selling 1,294 units in June and adding to the highest sales month in GM Indonesia’s history with 1,761 units sold across all vehicle lines, a 105-per-cent increase over May.
Second-quarter sales in Indonesia of 3,345 units represented a 142-per-cent increase over the previous quarter, while year-to-date sales of 4,728 units represented an increase of 82 per cent year on year.
Chevrolet Philippines saw another record-breaking month with sales of 456 units, up 84 per cent year on year. The Chevrolet Trailblazer mid-size sport utility vehicle led with 242 units sold. Sales of the Trailblazer have increased month over month since its launch in November.
Sales in Singapore of 211 units and Malaysia of 176 units also showed healthy performance.
In Thailand, Chevrolet’s sales of 4,073 units in June decreased from May but were in line with the general market trend in the automobile industry. Specific market segments saw a small increase in sales due to strong campaigns throughout Chevrolet’s national dealer network.
Sales for the latest addition to Chevrolet’s line-up in Thailand, the all-new Spin, are beginning to emerge after its successful launch in Indonesia. First-half sales in Thailand totalled 30,896 units.
The Chevrolet Colorado pickup continued to lead with 1,665 units sold, followed by the popular Chevrolet Sonic subcompact with 685 units. Sales of the Captiva SUV increased by 32 per cent over May to 634 units, the Trailblazer sold 571 units, the Cruze sedan increased by 16 per cent from May to 474 units and the Aveo subcompact sold 36 units.
“The automotive industry is experiencing a slip in the market compared with 2012,” Gustavo Colossi, vice president of sales, marketing and after-sales for Chevrolet Sales Thailand, said yesterday.
“The government’s first-car-buyer scheme last year generated a surge in retail sales that, compared with normal market growth trends, created sales growth that was significantly above average. This year, we are experiencing sales revenue that is back to the normal consumer cycle.”
