General Motors sold 6,987 vehicles in Asean last month, thanks to the excellent start of the Chevrolet Spin in Indonesia and Thailand.

In Indonesia, the aggressive roll-out of the all-new Spin subcompact van continued to break sales records, with 1,494 units moving out the door in July. That brought their total monthly sales to 1,858 units across all vehicle lines, a 5.5-per-cent increase month on month and 361 per cent year on year. That marks a new sales record for Chevrolet in Indonesia.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer midsize sport-utility vehicle continues to lead record-breaking sales for Chevrolet Philippines, with 201 units sold in July. The company sold a total of 452 units for 41-per-cent growth over July 2012.
Malaysia posted 177 units, Singapore 36 and other Asean markets 136.
In Thailand, Chevrolet sold 4,181 units in July, a 3-per-cent increase over June. The Colorado pickup continued to lead sales with 1,597 units. The newest addition to Chevrolet’s line-up, the Spin, also gained momentum since its launch in June, with 171 units sold in July.
The Chevrolet Sonic subcompact sedan saw an increase in sales in July compared with the previous month, with 701 units. Other Chevrolet models saw steady results in July, including an increase in sales of the Captiva SUV (702 units), Trailblazer (696 units), Cruze sedan (294 units) and Aveo subcompact (20 units).
“Chevrolet is experiencing stable growth across the region,” Gustavo Colossi, Chevrolet Sales Thailand and GM Southeast Asia Operations’ vice president of sales, marketing and after-sales, said yesterday.
“Our comprehensive product line-up is seeing positive responses with some modest sales records throughout the region. These are encouraging signs as we work towards consolidating our position in Thailand and across Asean.”
Chevrolet’s latest variant of the Sonic, featuring the new Chevrolet MyLink telematics/infotainment system and the first in its segment to offer capability to run on E85 (85-per-cent ethanol) fuel, began selling in showrooms last month.
Chevrolet’s newest sales-incentive programme, the Chevy Happy Deal, is running promotions for the Sonic, Cruze, Captiva, Trailblazer and Colorado through this month.
