The Chiang Mai facility has been producing electrolytic capacitors since 1980 and began manufacturing electric double-layer capacitors in 2006.
Elna’s sale of automotive applications has been rising thanks to the increased use of electronics in automobiles. The company expects its sales ratio for automotive applications to reach 75 per cent this year.
Other than producing aluminium electrolytic capacitors for automotive applications, Tanin Elna also produces radial type aluminium capacitor for control equipment such as engine, airbag, power steering and engine cooling. About ¥100 million (Bt32.6 million) was spent on the renovation and expansion, and another ¥200 million was spent on new equipment to reinforce the construction.
With the expansion, the facility now covers 3,000 square metres from 2,400sqm and its production capacity for capacitors larger than 12.5mm has risen from 30 million units per month to 38 million per month.
The company says with the increase in production capacity, it hopes to boost its profits by expanding its market to automotive electronics companies in the West and affiliated firms in Japan.
Demand for capacitors in the auto industry is expected to grow and Elna said it was planning to boost its production capacity further.
