Thai UC&C market expands 24%

Thailand's unified communication and collaboration (UC&C) market recorded revenue of US$28.8 million (Bt903 million) during the first half, some 24 per cent higher than in the same period last year, according to IDC Thailand.

The UC&C market – which includes enterprise telephony, IP (Internet Protocol) telephony, contact centre, video-conferencing, and enterprise-collaboration application products – also expanded 2 per cent over the latter half of last year.
These increases took place despite traditional slow periods in the first two quarters of the year, the company said.
The market was mainly stimulated by major deals from the public and private sectors for IP telephony and contact-centre solutions, and video-conferencing products. This indicates potential growth in technology deployment not only among multinationals, but also across several vertical markets.
Neeranuch Kanokvilairat, senior market analyst at IDC Thailand, is confident that with the country moving from a technology-driven market to a consumer-driven one, vendors will adapt to the change well and offer solutions that match the changing demands and usage behaviours of users successfully.
“Nevertheless, in terms of technology deployment, some technologies like video-conferencing and enterprise-collaboration applications in Thailand are still at an infant stage compared to other countries in Asia-Pacific. This is due to low awareness of these technologies. There is also the question of whether they are worth the investment,” she said.
The UC&C market has good potential for growth, accelerated by several factors such as improvement of the Kingdom’s infrastructure; cheaper bandwidth prices; good quality and wide coverage of 3G mobile services; integration of enterprise applications with social media; and the trend towards IP and mobility.
IDC expects the market to continue growing in the second half of this year.
