Agencies ink deal to promote Thai software

The Software Industry Promotion Agency and the International Trade Promotion Department have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote digital content and new-media projects in the global market.

Sipa director Trirat Chatkaew said the collaboration was aimed at leveraging individual software developers and software firms to distribute their programs and digital content to the global market – and therefore increase the overall competitiveness of Thai software enterprises and digital-content businesses.
“This is the second time that Sipa and the ITP Department have signed an MoU to promote and support local software in the global market, which will encourage the software and digital-content industry’s growth as a whole,” he said.
Srirat Rastsapana, director-general of the ITP Department at the time of the signing – and now permanent secretary at the Commerce Ministry – said the three-year initiative would help develop the digital-content market. The collaboration will help local software developers and digital-content developers to create an action plan, marketing plan, services and advertising in order to improve and leverage their potential to support the global market, she said.
It will also help such firms to provide their products and services for export.  Srirat said the two agencies expected that the agreement would enable the software and digital-content industries to generate revenue of about Bt1 billion this year.
Around 10 overseas roadshows a year will be conducted, with a total investment of Bt40 million being put into the project over the three-year period, she added.
