“During the day, I get both men and women passengers from the app, but at night, most of the passengers are women. Mostly, passengers using the app want to be picked up from work, or from home, especially if it is inside a long alley,” the taxi driver said.
Charoen is one of the 50 “Hero” taxi drivers promoted by Easy Taxi because he is very active in getting passengers and records lots of trade via the app per day. He also leads a group of taxi drivers, called “Booking Easy Taxi”. There are some 30 cabbies in his group.
“The beauty of using this app is to help us cut down on the number of empty rides. We save fuel costs with better productivity and usually pick up a new passenger right after dropping an old one off, especially during rush hour,” he said.
Taxi driver Papob Maungyou, who joined Grab Taxi 10 months ago, said he got more passengers thanks to the app, which means he earns more.
“Normally, I get at least three to four passengers per day from the app, or around 130 passengers a month. I often see [in the driver’s app] a lot of bookings via the app, but I cannot get all of them because I may be too far or already have a passenger,” Papob said.
He added that passengers had told him that the preferred to use an app because they were guaranteed a cab every time.
“Plus with this app, the drivers get benefits such as health insurance and welfare once we have reached the number of rides required,” he said.
