Hilux global sales dash past 5m mark

Toyota has sold more than 5 million of its Hilux vehicles around the globe since the model's introduction in 2004, while domestic sales have zoomed past the 1.5-million mark, according to Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT).

TMT senior vice president Vudhigorn Suriyachantananont said the Hilux is the core vehicle from Toyota's IMV (Innovative International Multi-Purpose Vehicle) project that was first introduced to Thai customers in 2004 under the Hilux Vigo name.
"Total sales of the Hilux from August 2004 to August 2014 reached 1,560,554 units and it has been the best-selling pickup truck in the country for eight consecutive years. From September 2004 to August 2014, global sales of the Hilux amounted to 5,174,635 units," Vudhigorn said.
"The 5-million-unit milestone is a pride for Toyota Motor Thailand that has produced a world-class vehicle that is well-accepted by Thai and global customers," he added.
To celebrate the achievement, Toyota will offer a special promotion for customers who purchase any Hilux Vigo model until December 31, with gold worth Bt50 million to be won.
The top prize features gold worth Bt957,000 (10 prizes), while the remaining prizes are worth Bt95,750 (50 prizes), Bt57,450 (120 prizes), Bt19,150 (630 prizes) and Bt9,575 (1,747 prizes) respectively.
The raffle of the prizes will take place on January 12 at the Asia Airport Hotel.
