By analysing the trends in the sector and listening to customers’ demands, German automotive giant Continental has developed a series of advanced technologies specially engineered for the next generation of vehicles.
“Continental Automotive is well prepared to provide the necessary technologies when Asean countries impose new regulations,” Continental Automotive (Thailand) managing director Thomas Chambers said.
“Our aim is to be ready to fulfill demands when these regulations are put in place, locally and regionally. For Thailand, with the Eco-Car ll project already approved by the Board of Investment, we look forward to expanding our operations and increasing production in Asean countries. Clean Power and Safe Mobility are the main targets, and also the introduction of smaller, more affordable cars,” he revealed.
Continental is in a position to drive Thailand forward in its role as an important production base in the region, with an estimated total of 3 million vehicles by 2017, 930,000 of which will be eco-cars. It currently ranks ninth on the list of automotive producers in the world.
“Our big advantage today is our presence in other Asean markets. We have specialised expertise in Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia, and we can definitely count on connectivity among these markets. Our engineering and manufacturing footprint in the region puts us a step ahead.
“Because we are developing a wide range of solutions, some of the more sophisticated technologies may not be commercialised before the next ten years, but others are already being used in the market, such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot detection.
Among the products Continental Automotive supplies to the world’s leading manufacturers are brake systems, high-pressure diesel pumps, diesel injectors, vehicle electronics, power trains and chassis components. The company is looking to expand even further as the region gains ground as one of the world’s most important markets.
