Four megatrends

The automotive industry is being shaped by the evolving needs of today's consumers in all parts of the world. These demands have generated four megatrends - safety, environment, information, and affordable cars.

Safety: By January 2016, Thailand – which has the second highest number of road accidents in the world – will impose stricter safety measures. It will become mandatory for new eco-cars to be equipped with two key systems: Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which are both active safety technologies. Continental has created the next level of driving safety technology, integrating all available know-how to serve one goal: a significant reduction of accidents.
Environment: Many governments are encouraging the production of more eco-cars that emit either modest or no greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Also by January 2016, Thailand will impose a regulation ensuring that cars do not emit more than 100 grams of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometre. Continental is committed to reducing CO2 emissions and cutting vehicle fuel consumption by delivering products such as advanced fuel injection systems and exhaust after-treatment systems to its customers worldwide.
Information: Today, there is a steady stream of information coming from various sensors, control units, antennae, and operating devices located inside and outside the car. Continental's integrated systems are able to control and optimise the complex flow of information in a way that is useful to the driver. With its technologies, Continental keeps the driver well informed about relevant driving data for overall safety, while ensuring information and entertainment for all occupants, through systems that are compatible with telephones, MP3s, etc.
Affordable cars: The global automotive market's demand for affordable cars is rising in all parts of the world, including Thailand. Continental offers solutions and systems that enable manufacturers to introduce cars of excellent quality based on state-of-the-art technology that customers can afford. Its goal is to be able to offer car manufacturers "high-tech at low cost" without compromising on quality and safety.
