Autodesk Fusion 360 now available via Apple App Store

Autodesk has launched Autodesk Fusion 360 in the Apple App Store, making it the first professional 3D CAD & CAM tool available for purchase on the platform.

Autodesk Fusion 360 is a cloud-based tool that combines 3D industrial and mechanical design, collaboration and machining in a single platform. It allows users to create products that have both form and function prepared for fabrication, the company states.
Since the program is cloud-based, users can access designs at anytime, anywhere. Data can also be viewed with tablets or mobile devices through the free version of the application.
Robert “Buzz” Kross, senior vice president at Autodesk, said the fundamental methods of design and manufacturing had been experiencing radical disruption. The company started from scratch and co-created Fusion 360 with the product-design community to reimagine 3D CAD and CAM.
“Our global community loves the Mac, and now they have a faster path to getting started with Fusion 360 on the Mac,” said Kross.
Autodesk Fusion 360 for Mac is available now in English for US$39.99 (Bt1,300) per month, or $299.99 per year.

Seagate ships its 10 millionth solid-state hybrid drive
Seagate Technology announced that it has shipped its 10 millionth solid-state hybrid hard drive (SSHD).
Seagate pioneered the world’s first SSHD and has experienced rising demand over the last two years for these solutions that offer the speed of SSDs combined with the industry’s highest storage capacities.
Seagate’s vice president of global marketing, Scott Horn, said the company is seeing growing demand for its SSHDs from the world’s leading PC manufacturers.
“Hybrid technology is proving the ultimate combination of high-performance and capacity needs with the price point that’s right for both budget constrained IT organisations and consumers,” he added.
Dave Reinsel, IDC group vice president for storage and semiconductors, said that SSHD continued to be an economical alternative to pure SSDs for PC users seeking to improve PC-system responsiveness.
This dynamic is being translated into an industry growth rate exceeding 400 per cent from Seagate’s fiscal year 2013 to fiscal year 2014.
